Misty Marrin Misty received a scholarship to play softball at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa in 2010. She was studying for her Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN). After three years she transferred to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. Misty is continuing to pursue her degree in nursing.
Maryn Sweirc: This young woman will be graduating from Trinity University in San Antonio in the spring of 2014. A volleyball player from Bracken Christian HS in Bulverde, Texas, Maryn was a setter on the Trinity Tigers volleyball team and helped her team reach the NCAA Division III tournament this past fall. With a degree in Ancient Mediterranean Studies from the Department of Classical Studies at Trinity, Maryn will be an intern next year with the Foundation of Laity Renewal, the same organization that she worked with during her summer vacations and that she travelled to Haiti with to participate in disaster relief following the tragedy that befell their country. !!!!
Ashley Mason: This 5’11” volleyball player hailed from Wagner High School in San Antonio and went on to Division I Texas Southern on a volleyball scholarship. In her initial year in college Ashley sported the highest GPA of any athlete in the school. After two years on the Tigers volleyball team, Ashley found that the demands of her major in Respiratory Therapy exceeded the time she could devote to volleyball and subsequently made the decision that her future life as a registered therapist was most important to her. Subsequently she dropped volleyball and is totally immersed in her clinical studies as she proceeds toward her internship.
Colton Bragg: In 2011 this Eagle Scout and captain of the football team at Lytle, Texas HS matriculated at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. After two years playing for the War Hawks, Colton felt the need to leave school to help his ailing grandfather on his farm. He knew the importance of his education and was determined to get back to pursuing his degree as soon as his family could work out a plan. This ever dedicated and determined young man has now enrolled as a full-time student at Texas A&M University at San Antonio and is proceeding toward his goal.
Erinn Stippich: Erinn was a graduate of New Braunfels Canyon High School in the spring of 2011. At 5’11” tall this volleyball athlete helped her team at Canyon achieve many victories. Colleges in Colorado and as far away as Massachusetts sought to scholarship this bright young woman to their schools but Erinn decided to stay in the State of Texas and attend Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX. After two years of collegiate volleyball, Erinn chose to concentrate on her studies, has transferred to Texas State University and plans to graduate in 2015 with her degree in Graphic Design.
Linda Verduzco: Linda was a star softball player and academician from Lady Bird Johnson High School. Her academic record and athletic skills resulted in her being pursued by colleges across the nation but her choice was the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton. Linda attended this Division I college and starred for them during her freshman year as attested to by the local news media in Binghamton. However, Linda’s interest was in marine biology and that major was not offered at her college. So Linda’s intent was to transfer to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi to get the proper course work in marine biology. Transferring from a Division I softball program, she had to sit out for a year and thus enrolled in a local community college Northwest Vista and has now decided to major in music. Numerous attempts to contact this AQUAS scholar-athlete to obtain an up-date have failed.
Kensey Camp: A superb scholar and athlete from Lytle , TX HS, Kensey ended up on the volleyball team at Division I Lamar University. This academic All-State performer was feared by her opponents in high school as the number of “kills” that she executed during a match would mount. Most recently the injury bug bit Kensey and her volleyball days were over when she was diagnosed with arthritis of the hip. However, this bright young woman will be graduating in 2014 with her degree in Exercise Science. Kensey will be progressing into more education as she seeks to ultimately become a registered physical therapist.
Kim Martinez: Kim came to AQUAS from her High School in Del Rio, Texas. Sporting a 4.39 GPA and a track and field star she drew a lot of attention from colleges in the south western U.S. It was McMurry College in Abilene, TX that won out as Kim decided to take her skills to that campus. An All-District discus thrower in HS, McMurry converted her into throwing the javelin and hammer for them. Although she was able to compete at the regional trials in college, her major emphasis has been in her academics. Kim has been no stranger to the Dean’s List in college and has worked so hard that she will graduate in 2014. Her degree will be in marketing although she was a triple major. Kim has been employed in various jobs during her collegiate career in order to help her family and assist in her college expenses.
Tori Bayer: Tori graduated from Floresville HS in Texas in 2012 and was on her way that fall to Lubbock Christian University. She did so well at LCU academically. In softball she pitched two no-hitters and was named Player-of-the-Week in her Conference. Tori then had the opportunity to transfer to Division II West Texas A&M in Canyon, TX. She opens up her season in Las Vegas on Feb. 7th. Academically Tori continues to be a star as this past semester she recorded a 4.0 GPA and made the President’s List. She is majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy and has a minor in Sport and Fitness.
Jonathan Macat: Jonathan hails from Lytle, Texas where he was an Eagle Scout, a member of the National Honor Society and Captain of the High School football team. He is now a sophomore at prestigious Bowdoin, College in Brunswick, Maine on a football scholarship. Having adjusted to a dramatic change in his entire living environment, Jonathan has adapted to the climatic conditions of the far Northeastern United States and the rigorous academic challenges at Bowdoin. He is leaning towards majoring in Environmental Sciences but whatever this determined and mature young man decides as his life calling, he will succeed.
Ashley Lopez: Ashley was an outstanding student and softball player at East Central High School. She was in the top 6% of her class with a 98.5% GPA. A middle infielder that received All-District honors in both her junior and senior years, she was heavily recruited throughout the country. Being well aware of the hardship that might be imposed on her family by going to school out of state, Ashley made the decision to go to a state school. She enrolled at Texas Tech University, is doing well in her studies and loves being at Tech and living in Lubbock.
Kaitlyn Goertz: Kaitlyn Goertz graduated from John Marshall HS in 2012. This young woman was sought after by over 70 colleges and universities. Having scored a 27 on her ACT and being the 5’10” captain of her school’s basketball team Kaitlyn decided to bring her talents to Schreiner University. Her first year in college she had a 3.75 GPA and was placed on the President’s List. In basketball she was named to the All-Conference All-Academic Team following her freshman year performance. The honors continue to roll in for this dedicated young woman as she was most recently named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and Community Female Student Athlete of the week. A mathematics major that loves teaching and mentoring young children, Kaitlyn continues to exemplify an AQUAS scholar-athlete. Jeanette Berlanga Jeanette graduated from KIPP Univ Prep – SA in May of 2013. This All-State soccer player reported to Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA in August of last year. As a member of the Diplomats Women’s Soccer Team she has had the opportunity to travel and see some places in the Northeast that she only had read about. Her dream of becoming a collegiate soccer player are certainly being realized. This bright young woman had to leave her home where her Mom, sister, two brothers and niece were very dependent on her presence. They are doing fine and Jeanette is doing beyond fine. She has adapted to the environment of this high academic college as evidenced by her outstanding grades after her first semester. Currently she is majoring in Criminal Justice but is leaning some towards the psychology aspect within that major. At home her very large community of friends and family look to her as the example of future success and feel that she is exhibiting the tenacity of a first generation collegian.
Wyatt Trinidad: This is the valedictorian of the Class of 2013 from Holy Cross High School in San Antonio. Wyatt was a stalwart of his high school’s baseball team. So focused on everything he undertakes, whether it be academics, sports or family loyalty, this hard throwing baseball pitcher (87 MPH) had plenty of opportunities to go to college and play his sport at the next level. However, when he found that there would be costs to his parents to cover the difference between athletic scholarship dollars and college expenses, Wyatt decided to exercise the other option he had at his disposal. As valedictorian he could attend any state institution in the State of Texas at no cost to his family and so he enrolled at Texas A&M University in College Station. He may still elect to try and be a walkon player at A&M but is more focused on his academics which will allow him to become a physician.
Davante Wilson: This 6’3” basketball player was academically ranked 7th in his class of 657. Although a player contributing on the East Central HS basketball team and a starter on his AAU team, the SA Rohawks, Davante’s focus has always been his academics and his performance in that arena has always been exceptional. As a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America, he also received the prestigious Yale Book Award for South Texas. Even with all this activity, he still has found time to be active in his church, the East Central Athletic Booster Club and volunteer for the City of San Antonio Luminaria Festival. Davante received academic scholarships which enabled him to enter the freshman class in 2013 at the University of Texas in San Antonio. His goal is to become a physician.

Amanda Sanchez: Amanda will be graduating in the spring of 2014 from Southwest HS in San Antonio where she starred in both the classroom and the softball field throughout her high school career. An All-District outfielder every year, Amanda was always a threat when she was at bat for her team. Most importantly this young woman’s performance in the classroom has been noteworthy. This NHS student maintained a 3.8 GPA and placed in the upper 5% of her class each year. This kind of focus in her academics and her sport skills made her a sought after collegian. Amanda has committed to continue her career in softball and getting her degree in Physical Therapy by accepting a scholarship from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Karagan Day This is an All-District, All-Academic volleyball player from Bracken Christian HS in Bulverde, TX. Karagan sports a 4.0 GPA and a 29 ACT score on her first take. Currently there are 22 colleges that have shown an interest in Karagan. Her interest is to get her degree in Graphic Design.

Dallas O’Connell: Dallas will be graduating from Castle Hills Baptist HS in 2015. This hardworking girl is a triple threat athletically as she competes in volleyball, basketball and track. Her focus though, is the volleyball. Dallas has a 3.66 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Besides her school work and sports her passion is sports photography. Alec Caldera Meet a National Merit Scholar! This very bright young man is an outstanding student and shooting guard on the Clark HS basketball team. Having recently transferred from a high school where he ranked first in his class of over 700 students he has been busy adjusting to a new academic environment and basketball system. He is on his way rising to the top as of this writing and will be attaining a similar status in his new school.
