AQUAS is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that is identifying underserved high school athletes who have demonstrated high academic performance. These students may not have received much national visibility for a number of reasons; thus college coaches are not aware of their skills. AQUAS overcomes that problem as it puts these selected students in front of the colleges athletic departments until the right academic and athletic matches are found.
Karagan Day is an outstanding volleyball player that led her school team into the TAPPS playoffs. Since 9th grade she has received All-District Honors in volleyball but last year was selected on the TAPPS Academic All-State team. This remarkable young lady, through her leadership skills and determination on the court, has been known to take her team from seemingly insurmountable odds and spur Bracken on to victory. Her head coach at Bracken, Casey Menn, says that Karagan is the ultimate team player. She plays the game with such intensity and sets the bar high by her example for her teammates and opponents.
Karagan Day is much more than just an athlete. She is one of the brightest students that AQUAS has ever worked with in their four-year existence. Her performance on the ACT will rank her highly on the recruiting ladder with coaches at high academic schools throughout the country. A member of the National Honor Society, Karagan still makes time to participate in the Students and Leaders Together (SALT) program in which students in the upper classes serve as role models for elementary level children. She is currently working on an art fundraiser to raise money for Pediatric Cancer Research in honor of a student who died of cancer in 2012.
COL Hugh Mulligan, CEO of AQUAS, stated,” Karagan Day epitomizes the kind of student athlete that we are always looking for. She possesses the athletic skills to play at the collegiate level; but, most importantly, she continually demonstrates the integrity and work ethics to attain the goals which she has set for herself.” This is what Karagan is all about. Her parents should be so proud; they truly have raised a winner in all respects”.
