San Antonio, Texas – September 17, 2017 – Meet Tiara Gomez! This young lady was just notified last week that she has been selected as an AQUAS scholar/athlete.
AQUAS is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that is identifying underserved high school athletes who have demonstrated high academic performance. These students may not have received much national visibility for a number of reasons; thus college coaches are not aware of their skills. AQUAS overcomes that problem as it puts these selected students in front of collegiate athletic departments until the right academic and athletic matches are found and some financial support from the gaining university has been secured.
Tiara, a softball player from Harlandale High School, normally plays second base or the outfield for the Indians. Gomez has been a starter at her school since her freshman year and has received All-District honors each year. She also plays a huge role in the success of her club team, the SA Wildcats. Wildcats’ coach Paul Greco says that this is one of the most coachable players he has ever had. “As a left-handed slapper with a home-to-first speed of 2.8 secs, this girl is a tough out,” stated Greco. He went on, “A joy to coach, thrilling to watch play and so respected as a leader, both on and off the field. She adds so much to the Wildcats!”
Let us not forget, Tiara is also an outstanding student. Ranking in the top 8% of her class with a 3.5 GPA, she still manages her time to participate as a member of the National Technical Honor Society, Student Council, and Business Professionals of America. There is something else that is so important to Gomez and that is her love of animals. Thus her life ambition is to become a veterinarian.
Lorena Contreras, Vice President of AQUAS, comments, “This lovely young lady has overcome so many obstacles in her life and continues toward her goals. Her love of her family and her caring devotion to her siblings is remarkable”
COL Hugh Mulligan, CEO of AQUAS, stated, “Anyone just has to meet this girl and you can see her ability to focus on the future and the determination and grit she possesses to succeed. And that she will, for Tiara Gomez has not yet met the hill that she cannot climb!”
